A pair of gilt metal cut corner cufflinks featuring a beautifully hand painted vitreous enamel crest of the Royal Artillery and regimental colours. The Royal Regiment of Artillery, or Royal Artillery, or "The Gunners", are a regiment in the British army founded back in 1716. The usage of artillery in the British Army dates back to the in 1346, and was made semi-perminant by Henry VIII in the Sixteenth Century. On 26 May 1716, however, by royal warrant of two regular of field artillery, each 100 men strong, were raised at . From this tiny acorn a mighty oak grew and by there were over one million men serving in 960 gunner regiments.
The regimental stripes are seen on the opposing panel to the actual crest on the other. This zig zag navy and red is the stripe pattern for the Royal Artillery. Each regiment has its own colours and patterns. European made, circa 1940's.
